Despite the fire that destroyed the boardroom at the Maltese Community Centre in Parkville last Friday, a congregation of about 100 people attended the Easter Vigil Mass in Maltese which was held in the main hall of the Centre on Saturday evening.
Fr Edwin Agius MSSP celebrated mass. The evening cermony started with the candle lighting, the blessing of the fire and the Easter Candle which carried in a procession into the hall.
During the Liturgy of the Word several passages from the Old and New Testaments were read by different readers. Later on, during the Liturgy of Baptism the new water was blessed and the Baptism vows were renewed by the congregation. Finally, there was the Liturgy of the Holy Eucharist.
Present in the congregation were the two MCCV Vice Presidents, Mr Victor Borg and Mr Gejtu Deguara and Mrs Deguara. Also present were the MCCV Welfare Director, Mrs Rosemary Attard and Mr Attard. Mr Vincent Calleja performed the role of MC.
After the ceremony Mr Victor Borg thanked Fr Agius for looking after the religious ceremonies on Maundy Thursday, Good Friday and Easter Saturday. He also thanked all those present who came to practice their faith and show their love for Maltese culture.
As usual, the hall was beautifully decorated by Mr Alfred Asciak.
After mass, a small reception was held in the foyer outside the hall where refreshments brought by the members of the congregation were shared among all. A word of thanks goes to all those who assisted in the kitchen.
