Our Social Support and Centre Based Respite groups have a regular Zumba dance session each month at the Maltese Community Centre.
Zumba and dancing for the elderly has a range of physical, mental and emotional health benefits:
- Mood: Movement to music can boost dopamine and serotonin in the brain to produce happy feelings.
- Heart health: Keeps blood circulating through your body to increase heart rate.
- Cognitive function: Improves hand-eye coordination and right-left brain activity. Research has shown that performing familiar moves also increases muscle memory.
- Increases mobility: Improve balance, coordination, and posture. Regular Zumba or dance activity can decrease arthritis and sore joints over time.
Our groups look forward to these sessions and we always have a great time and lots of laughs.
