In a media release issued yesterday, the Malta High Commission in Canberra announced the arrival of Mr Salvino Giusti, the incoming Consul General for Sydney, New South Wales. Mr Giusti arrived in Sydney last Monday and replaces Mr Christopher Mercieca, who ended his term of office last month.
Mr. Giusti joined the Civil Service of the Government of Malta in 1960 and performed duties at the Department of Health, Tourism Board, Department of Social Services and the Ministry of Education, Culture and Tourism. He was appointed as Member of the Organising Committee of the 13th Council of Europe Art Exhibition – The Order of St. John in Malta.
In May 1970, he started duties at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and he was assigned for duties with the Maltese Delegation at the Permanent Mission of Malta to the United Nations in New York, where he served in various diplomatic grades.
In December 1971, he was part of a 2-member Maltese delegation for negotiations with the United States, Secretary of State William Rogers at the Department of State, Washington DC, on the presence of British Military forces in Malta.
In 1974, Mr. Giusti was appointed Malta’s Representative of the Governing Council of the United Nations Development Programme.
During 1983-1987, he served as Chargé de Affairs and Consul General at the Embassy of the Republic of Malta in Tripoli, Libya. In November 1988, Mr. Giusti was awarded Honours and Decoration for “Distinguished Diplomatic Service in Libya” by the Government of Libya.
Mr. Giusti has assumed his position as the Consul General in Sydney with jurisdiction over the State of New South Wales and is on a three-year term of duty.
