According to the Press Release issued yesterday, the Minister for Transport and infrastructure Joe Mizzi announced that, with immediate effect, a new service will be established to start receiving complaints and suggestions from the public and those involved in the public transport sector, including the workers. The Government’s objective is to obtain, through this system, a clear picture about the shortcomings that exist in the sector and in this way plans can be designed for the changes required.
Complaints and suggestions regarding public transport in Malta may be submitted by email to [email protected] during the next four weeks commencing 22 March 2013 and ending 19 April 2013. This provides a good opportunity for non-resident Maltese citizens, who have to pay higher fares when visiting Malta, to submit their complaints about this discrimination.
During a news conference held at the offices of Transport Malta in Sa Maison, Minister Joe Mizzi said that in the sector there are still big problems and for them to be addressed, the complaints and suggestions of the public and also those who work in the sector must be heard.
The suggestions and complaints will be evaluated so that subsequently discussions with those concerned could commence.
Minister Joe Mizzi said that the Government’s aim is to ensure that this service is provided with dignity and will be acknowledged by the whole people, while he also added that the complaints that have been made in the past will not be ignored.
After this public consultation exercise, the Local Councils will be involved in the analysis of the problems that exist in every locality.
During the press conference Konrad Pulè, a senior officer at Transport Malta and Victor Battistino, a senior manager in the Customer Card department, provided details about how this system will work.
In addition to submission by email, one can make complaints and suggestions by phoning the call centre on freephone (+356) 80072309 or (+356) 80072393 (Malta phone numbers) during office hours between 8.00 am and 4.30 pm (Malta time) Monday to Friday.
Transport Malta will address every phone call or email received about this subject, but is requested the public to be concise when making complaints and suggestions.
The Minister also said that the problems in Transport Malta will be given priority, just as other sectors that fall under his responsibility are being given priority, such as Government projects, as is that of Cottonera, where the Minister already announced in the past days that the Government will be looking at completing it as soon as possible.
In comments made to the journalists, the Minister confirmed that James Piscopo will be the new Executive Head of Transport Malta. He described Mr Piscopo as a very competent person who will certainly work to improve the service in this sector.
