There is currently a severe shortage of Maltese interpreters in Victoria. We understand that there is only one Maltese interpreter who has National Accreditation Authority for Translators and Interpreters (NAATI) qualifications. The Victorian Government is offering scholarships of $3,250 to students who are accepted into the Advanced Diploma of Interpreting program at RMIT University to study interpreting in the Maltese language. The Maltese Community Council of Victoria encourages those proficient in the Maltese language to take advantage of this scholarship and consider a career in the field.

The Advanced Diploma of Interpreting is a one year, part-time program, which begins in February 2016 and finishes in November 2016. Classes are held at RMIT University’s City campus in Melbourne. Classes may be held during the day or evening depending on the timetable.
