The Islands and Small States Institute is offering a diploma course entitled “Diploma in Gozo Studies”. At a recent meeting of the Board of Studies, members agreed that it can be offered online to students of Gozitan heritage living in Australia, Canada, USA and other host countries.
The Islands & Small States Institute promotes research and training on economic, social, cultural, ecological and geographical aspects of islands and small states. It also offers postgraduate courses on islands and small states studies.
Based at the University of Malta, the institute evolved from the Islands and Small States Programme which had been set up in 1989 at the Foundation for International Studies, Valletta. In 1993, the Programme was restructured as an Institute with the principal aim of enabling the organisation to offer academic courses.
The course consists of three modules, namely:
(i) Economics and Environmental Studies
(ii) History and
(ii) Culture.
Each module will consist of 5 study units.

I have contacted the University of Malta as I was interested in applying for the online course. However, I had difficulty selecting the ‘online’ option. Here is their response FYI:
“We are planning to offer the course leading to the Diploma in Gozo Studies on line. We may be able to offer it on line as from the next academic year. We are drawing up regulations at present. Approval of these regulations will take some time”
