The Australian High Commissioner in Malta, Ms Anne Quinane, attended the latest planting ceremony presided over by Parliamentary Assistant within the Ministry of Resources and Rural Affairs, the Hon. Philip Mifsud, at the Fgura B Primary School on 27 October 2011. Twenty-five endemic olive trees were planted at the school.
The Ministry of Resources and Rural Affairs, which runs the 34U program, partnered the High Commission with this school because the children there had shown a strong commitment to the government’s EKOSKOLA program.
Mr Mifsud thanked Ms Quinane for her contribution towards a better environment. He praised the ecological initiativestaken by the students and the teachers at this school.
The Australian High Commission has sponsored the planting of trees as part of an initiative to support Malta’s 34U afforestation program. Last year the High Commission planted 110 endemic olive trees at Ta’ Qali National Park.
